Are you a creative individual and would like to spread that onto a less privileged child?
If you'd like to help a child realise his/her creative side, then this is the project for you. We have an art project for less privileged children in our community. At the project you will be helping at a primary school for less privileged children with art lessons. The project will be located near one of South Africa's beautiful cities, Cape Town. Cape Town city is also known for its sharp dissimilarities, where you can explore issues of social change and diversity and learn about new cultures. Project
Overview
Poverty is one of the major problems in South Africa, with most children leaving their homes in hopes of finding something better outside their homes. The Art Project aims at teaching children from an early age how to use their time and hands productively. We believe that Art is an important subject, not only on its own but in the rest of education as well. Through art, a lot of children will be given the chances to learn new skills, which they can use to generate income and help their families. The Art project involves teaching less privileged children at a township primary school how to tap into their creative side because creativity is the basis of many art projects. Therefore, this project will help equip the children in using any resources they have skilfully. This will also enable the children to think for themselves in more productive and creative ways. Many less privileged children usually resort to bad habits when they have nothing to do, this project will help give them skills to use to occupy their time in a meaningful and safe way. As a volunteer you will be assisting with Art lessons, drawings crafts and playing games. Your role will also be to motivate and be a positive influence to the children as they will be looking up to you. This project gives you an opportunity to add value to a child's life.
Location
The educare centre is located in Capricorn which is approximately 20min walk from the house/lodge where the volunteers will be staying. Muizenberg is only a 20-minute drive away from Cape Town and is a very well known and sought-after holiday destinations, located on the eastern shore of False Bay.

What to expect from South Africa and the style of living
We offer nice accommodation for all the Volunteers, please remember it is communal so you will be meeting lots of other people. It's best to take time out for yourself whilst Volunteering with us and ensure that you do have alone time as living with lots of other people can get challenging at times, however all round it's an amazing experience and you will make lots of new friends. The township is based 15 minutes walk away and you will be teaching the children from the townships to surf. You do need to be careful with your belongings and not walk alone at night. The volunteers usually do stick together and do things together. The children hardly have blankets net alone food, so whilst volunteering here please come with an open mind and willing-ness to help. You may bring any old clothes, blankets, food etc that you may have. The community appreciates any help you can give them.
