Project
Overview
South Africa is famous for its many Game/Nature Parks. These Nature Park are protected areas of importance for wildlife, flora and fauna which are reserved and managed for conservation. This project takes place at one of South Africa’s popular National Parks, as a volunteer you will be helping at this remarkable Nature Park which is one of the premier urban parks in the world. The park is recognised globally for its extraordinary rich, diverse and unique fauna and flora, with rugged cliffs, steep slopes and sandy flats. This National Park is a splendid natural, scenic, historical, cultural and recreational asset known and admired both locally and internationally. Nowhere else in the world does an area of such spectacular beauty and such rich bio-diversity exist almost entirely within a metropolitan area - the thriving and multinational city of Cape Town.
South Africa’s National Parks are required to build constituencies at international, national and local levels, in support of the conservation of the natural and cultural heritage of South Africa. As a volunteer you will participate and get involved in biodiversity initiative which is a fundamental part of civil society. You will be involved in a number of activities which will include Guided Walks, Hikes, Safety Patrols, Removal of alien vegetation, Forest and Fynbos rehabilitation, Gardening and Footpath maintenance, Brochures, Hospitality, Information Talks & Presentations, Administration, Research & Fundraising, Visitor Safety, Information & Education
Location
The National Park is situated at the south-western tip of Africa near Cape Town; it encompasses the incredibly scenic Table Mountain Chain stretching from Signal Hill in the north to Cape Point in the south and the seas and coastline of the peninsula.

What to expect from South Africa and the style of living
We offer nice accommodation for all the Volunteers, please remember it is communal so you will be meeting lots of other people. It’s best to take time out for yourself whilst Volunteering with us and ensure that you do have alone time as living with lots of other people can get challenging at times, however all round it’s an amazing experience and you will make lots of new friends. The township is based 15 minutes walk away and you will be teaching the children from the townships to surf. You do need to be careful with your belongings and not walk alone at night. The volunteers usually do stick together and do things together. The children hardly have blankets net alone food, so whilst volunteering here please come with an open mind and willing-ness to help. You may bring any old clothes, blankets, food etc that you may have. The community appreciates any help you can give them.
